FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE) – As Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches in October, there’s a unique way to support the fight against breast cancer and maybe pick up a treasure or two in the process. road.

In search of treasures, in search of special or useful objects at a low price. It happens every day at the American Cancer Discovery Shop in Fresno.

“We just have a nice store. It is not marketed as a thrift store. It really is a beautiful store, ”said store manager Bonnie O’Neal.

Saturday September 25 marks 56 years for Discovery stores. Founded in 1965 in Los Angeles by a woman named Denise Noel, who dated the Hollywood elite and raised funds for the American Cancer Society by selling their donations.

Today, 45 Discovery Shops are scattered across California, including the one in Bullard and West in Fresno.

The store is beautifully decorated by volunteers from the store, many of whom are cancer survivors. It is filled with donated clothing for men, women and children. And household and decorative items galore, with all proceeds going to research, education and support for cancer patients.

“Absolutely, that’s the main reason we’re here and it’s a great feeling every day to know that,” O’Neal said.

The Discovery Store also carries wigs donated by local wig stores. Cancer patients can choose one for free.
“And if they need another one, they can come back and get another one,” O’Neal explained.

Each item on display has been selected for quality. Some of them are extremely high end. In fact, on October 28 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, customers can shop from a special collection of designer clothes and accessories.

“We saved some goods as you can see. We have beautiful, beautiful items here. Salvatore Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, ”said O’Neal.
