NEW YORK, NY, May 03, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cryptovoxels, one of the most prominent players in the metaverse space, is changing its name to Voxels. The name change will take place on May 3 at 8 p.m. EDT (May 4 at noon NZ time).
One of the most popular Web 3 communities, Cryptovoxels is a metaverse on the Ethereum blockchain where players can own land and create and grow online experiences. The user-owned virtual world already hosts a number of art galleries, shops and party spaces.
Far from a simple name change, the rebranding to Voxels represents a pivot to a wider audience that caters to those unfamiliar with cryptocurrency for the New Zealand-based platform. Web 3 promises a whole new Internet experience, and the Metaverse is at the epicenter of that promise.
As interest in the metaverse grows, it is attracting the attention of more and more brands, businesses, and consumer sectors. With the rapid growth of metaverse platforms, Cryptovoxels is expanding its user base horizon from those familiar with cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to a more mainstream audience.
As founder Ben Nolan explained, “Cryptovoxels was founded on April 1, 2018, before NFTs hit the mainstream. We are honored to have released around the same time as Cryptopunks and Cryptokitties. word “crypto” may carry a negative connotation in the public mind, and yet the future of decentralization is bright and we believe in user sovereignty. Cryptovoxels is Voxels. We are rebranding to match our goal of embracing the growth and culture of Web 3.0.
The reason for the rebranding
Cryptovoxels has already established itself as a leading metaverse in the ecosystem. According to data from MetaCat, Cryptovoxels ranks fifth in package sales volume ($38 million) and total packages sold. The platform is consistently ranked just behind Decentraland and The Sandbox in terms of popularity and user base.
Cryptovoxels’ land is more sparse than its competitors, allows users to rely on free spaces and submit portable devices to public collections for free, and is also mobile-friendly.
Leveraging its position as a market-leading metaverse, Cryptovoxels – soon to be Voxels – intends to extend the benefits of Web 3 users to Web 2 users, non-crypto users, and respond to the growing interest for the metaverse among businesses and brands.
Voxels will retain the independent feel of Cryptovoxels while continuing to grow and develop. The metaverse platform sees continued player expansion as we add themed islands, minigames, and stories. A new character that was created, VIDDA, the heart of artificial intelligence that inspires new people in the game, has become a symbol of brand change, representing a commitment to visuals, intent, design, direction and atmosphere.
Cryptovoxels was the world’s first metaverse ever published. Commenting on the rebrand, lead developer and product owner Benjamin Larcher said, “As a brand, Cryptovoxels has grown significantly and maintained the most user-friendly and accessible metaverse image. I’ve been privileged to be part of this growth, both as a player and as a developer. Today, Cryptovoxels becomes Voxels. We’ve been blessed to work with some brilliant minds in the community and in the business, and are grateful for how they made us who we are today. I am committed to continuing to improve the Voxels experience. This includes performance improvements, more accessibility, more features, and most importantly, more value to the community. As a gamer, I can’t wait to see Voxels become a better Cryptovoxels.
Kick off newly created voxels
While Voxels’ new website won’t launch until the second half of the year, the name change on May 3 will be celebrated with the launch of VoxCon, Voxels’ new headquarters in the metaverse, on the island of Andromeda.
VoxCon will host a show to celebrate, complete with music, two DJs, a special workshop, and an AMA with Ben Nolan and Benjamin Larcher. Any logged-in participant who signs the guestbook on the Giving Tree near the entrance will receive at least a dozen collectibles: clothes for their avatars.
Cryptovoxels will officially become Voxels – as indicated by a new logo to be unveiled soon – on May 3, 12pm UTC, 8pm EST (May 4, 12am NZT).
Cryptovoxels – soon to be Voxels – is one of the blockchain industry’s original metaverse platforms and has a thriving community of gamers and landowners. Its user-owned virtual world based on the Ethereum network offers visitors a range of experiences, including art, design, music, and other immersive virtual experiences.
