NEW YORK and REDWOOD CITY, California (December 14, 2021) – Major League Soccer (MLS) and Electronic Arts (EA) today announced the competition schedule and details for the 2022 season of eMLS, the official esports league of Major League Soccer.
The season will feature 27 professional EA SPORTS FIFA players, each representing an MLS club, on the virtual field as they compete for their share of the season’s record $ 75,000 prize pool.
The competition will take place on EA SPORTS FIFA 22 and will be played exclusively on PlayStationÂ®5 (PS5 â¢), marking the first season of eMLS played on the next-gen console.
Charlotte FC will join the eMLS in 2022, bringing the total number of eMLS participations to 27 clubs.
For the first time ever, all participating clubs will be broadcasting each of their season qualifiers on their respective official social networks, offering clubs new competitive content representing up to 350 hours of live coverage, a record breaking, and offering clubs fans more opportunities to watch their favorite. If current pandemic conditions permit, this year’s eMLS will see a return to in-person competition hosted at MLS club stadiums and local concert halls in Cincinnati, Chicago and Austin.
