Today, FORTUNE announced the 68th FORTUNE 500, its annual list of the largest companies in United Statesranked by revenue for fiscal year 2021. The revenue threshold for the 2022 FORTUNE 500 list was $6.4 billion, up 19% year-on-year. In total, FORTUNE 500 companies account for two-thirds of US GDP with $16.1 trillion in turnover (+17%), $1.84 trillion in profits (+114%), $37 trillion in market value (+13%) and employs 29.7 million people worldwide. 44 companies in the 2022 FORTUNE 500 are led by female CEOs, an all-time high.
The top five companies maintained their position on the list, with Walmart taking the top spot for the tenth consecutive year, generating $5.1 trillion income accumulated over this period. At No. 2, Amazon.com saw its revenue jump 22%, eclipsing the $450 billion brand. At third, Apple is the most profitable company on the list for the seventh time in eight years, gaining $95 billion in profits. At #4, CVS Health and CEO Karen Lynch continue to make FORTUNE 500 history, with CVS as the highest-ranked company ever led by a female CEO.
