During weeks, survey data showed that Republicans were favored to take control of the House of Representatives in the medium term, projections supported by historical trends.

Go to elections Democrats held 220 seats, just two of the 218 needed to control the chamber, Republicans held 212 and there were three vacancies. Democrat Jeff Jackson has won the race to fill North Carolina’s new 14th congressional district.

While a gain of 16 seats is important and is about to implement legislation in the next term, the The U.S. Presidency Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara said that the president’s party has on average lost more – 28 seats – in the 22 midterm elections between 1934 and 2018. Republican control of the House means that U.S. Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) Would become House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who was most recently the target of a brutal home invasion.
